Mark's Tattoo of an Ouroboros
Ouroboros is a greek word, and means "tail swallower." It is in the form of a snake swallowing its tail, and is usually circular, although it is sometimes depicted in a lemniscate shape. It originated in Egypt, as a symbol of the sun, and represented the travels of the sun disk. In Gnosticism, it was related to the solar God Abraxas, and signified eternity and the soul of the world.

The Virgin of Guadalupe Tattoo
According to Catholic mythology of the first accounts of the Guadalupan apparition, during a walk from his village to the city on December 9th , 1531, Juan Diego saw a vision of a Virgin at the Hill of Tepeyac. Speaking in Nahuatl, Guadalupe said to build an abbey on the site, but when Juan Diego spoke to the Spanish Bishop, Fray Juan de Zumarraga, the prelate asked for a miraculous sign. So the Virgin told Juan Diego to gather flowers from the hill, even though it was witer, when normally nothing bloomed. He found Spanish roses, gathered them on his tilma, and presented these to the bishop. According to the legend, when the roses fell from it an icon of the Guadalupe remained imprinted on the cloth.
The image of the Virgin of Guadalupe is a symbol important to Mexican identity and some people even consider her as "Empress of the Americas".

Om Tattoo
Vhiny with an Om symbol inside of a Tribal Sun
The Om is also often referred to as the sound of the Earth…creation...the heart of existence. To become one with the sound of the Om, through visual meditation and sounding of the vibration, allows one to become one with the source of all...to become "realized"...a "master." This last perspective of “Om” is how most westerners experience the “Om” and why it is used as an ending to many New Age ceremonies and gatherings

Nautical Star
Historically most agree that Sailors were the first people to get a nautical star tattoos. In fact the very word nautical means : Of, relating to, or characteristic of ships, shipping, sailors, or navigation on a body of water. So this connection would be pretty well established. Sailors being a superstitious group historically and sailors telling fantastic stories of life and death and being lost at sea. Probally gave rise for sailors to get a nautical star tattoo as a symbol of good luck for a safe voyage & safe return home to loved ones.

Star of David Tattoo
Jamie with a Star of David
The name David in ancient Hebrew (during the time of King David) is made up of three letters "Dalet", "Vav" and "Dalet". The letter Dalet in ancient Hebrew is actually a triangle. King David used the six pointed star as his signature (the two triangles of his name). The middle letter "Vav" means six - The six pointed star. The six-points symbolize that God rules over the universe and protects us from all six directions: North, South, East, West, Up and Down. King David used this symbol in the battlefield on his shield as an omen from God.

Shane with Hamesh ( Hamaa) Hand tattoo
The Hamsa origin is believed to predate Islam. The symbol was previously used in Punic religion, where it was associated with Tanit. In Israel and in Jewish culture it is most commonly known as "Hamsa", without any Islamic heritage connotations. Some sources link the significance of the five fingers to the five books of the Torah or to the five pillars of Islam.

CELTIC DESIGNS

Celtic designs are based on delicate knot work , mystifying spirals and intricate patterns that demonstrates an understanding of geometric motifs mixed with Human Animals and organic forms. The first record of the Celts tells us of their occupation of the Danube region. From there they spread west establishing tribes throughout France, Spain and the British Isles'. The Roman armies overran most this territory however they were not successful! In conquering Ireland and parts of Scotland, Ancient writings tell of the Celts as fierce warriors. That decorated with their bodies decorated with blue war paint, tribal tattoos before battle. The Roman Armies were most impressed by the Celtic tribesmen's horsemanship, the control of their fighting carts and their treatment of their horses.

The Trinity Knot Tattoos
The Celtic Trinity Knot (shown below), or the Triquetra, is one of the most common of the knot ilk. The term Triquetra comes from Latin, and it means "three-cornered." There are many schools of thought when discussing the Celtic trinity knot meaning. All of the various interpretations agree on a culmination of thee parts. For example, early Christian understanding views the symbols as the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Whereas, a more pagan school of thought sees the trinity knot as the drawing of the three inherent feminine powers: Mother, Crone, and Maiden. Still another understanding can be found in a more metaphysical arena where the three corners represent mind, body and spirit. This wide array of interpretations reminds us that the meanings of these engaging knots are not set in stone. As mentioned, the lack of written records on the subject causes us to use our own powers of deduction. It's the author's opinion that this isn't a bad thing. The very fact that the Celtic knot history is so elusive makes more room for magic and allows for personal expansion. In short, let your imagination soar when contemplating the art of knot work – your interpretation will ultimately be your best guide, and the only
